Spontaneous Construction – A Festival of Creative
Re-Invention
This is
a one day benefit event for Home
Resource, a building materials
re-use and recycling center. Home Resource helps build healthier
communities and reduce waste by re-using and recycling building
materials. SponCon (for short) is our signature event, designed
to challenge our thinking about consumption, waste, and how we
use our resources creatively.
Home Resource is calling for submissions of found-object art and
any work addressing environmental and social sustainability. We
welcome any work that examines the relationships between humans
and landscape, civilization and wildness.
This is an excellent exposure opportunity for new and emerging
artists.
The silent auction will be held August 16th at the Spontaneous
Construction Art Carnival and Benefit, a major event sponsored
by The Trail, Big Sky Brewing and The Good Food Store, featuring
performance artists, a live auction, and live music. Bidding
will take place all day on Saturday, August 15th, 2006.
Artists may choose to donate 100% of their work’s sale price
to Home Resource, or split the proceeds 50/50.
SUBMISSION
- Each artist may submit one to three pieces, sculptural or wall-hung. Smaller
is definitely better, as space is somewhat limited.
- Please attach a label to each piece with:
- Title
- Your name
- Suggested minimum bid. (Most works will range between
$25 and $100.
Expect that bidding may start lower, but go higher than the
suggested minimum.)
- Materials and/or media used
We will create the final, uniform labels for each piece in the
week before the event.
- Bring your work to Home Resource by August 8th. Works
will be selected by August 15th. You will be called to
pick up unselected work.
- Works will be selected by a jury including local artists, associates
of the Missoula Art Museum or local galleries, and the Home Resource
Board of Directors. Selection criteria may include available
space and other logistics.
- Final installation and set-up will take place Saturday morning,
August 16th.
THE AUCTION: (Click
here for more silent and live auction details.)
- The Auction will run from 12 noon to about 8 p.m. (One
half hour after the close of the live auction.) Home Resource
staff and volunteers will tally the results and collect payment
by 10 pm.
- Bidders must purchase admission to the evening event. (Click
here for ticket information.) Artists donating 100% of their
proceeds receive free admission to the Street Party, including
dinner and bid card.
- If you choose to split the proceeds 50/50 with Home Resource,
you will receive a statement and check for 50% of the total selling
price of your art in the mail by the end of September.
- Most items in the auction will have a suggested minimum bid,
but you may place a RESERVE on your work if you wish. The
bid card will state, “If Reserve is not met, the high bidder
may negotiate with the artist.”
- Purchasers will be expected to take home their pieces at the
end of the night, though we recognize some will need to make
arrangements for delivery.
Your help may be needed with this, especially if the piece requires
some disassembly and re-assembly.
- Any pieces not purchased should be taken by the artist after
the event.
If you cannot attend the event, please call Matt Hisel at 880-7334
or 541-8300, so he can make arrangements to return any unsold
work.
